At least if you're one of the cities in the beta...
Now this is pretty freakin' cool. I cannot for the life of me remember where I was tipped to this, but it's pretty awesome. It's a mapping tool that lets you see the buildings on the block--both sides of the street--where you focus the map. You can't link to a specific spot with a permanent URL, but as an interactive tool it's great. Notice that there are still a lot of streets without anything to look at, but for now even just as a time waster to see if you can find places in town, it's really quite amazing. High quality pictures, too.

Amazon has been working on this for a while now. They just have people driving up and down streets taking hundreds of photos. Perhaps you read about it at AmericaBlog. He had a blurb much like your's on it yesterday.
For my part it takes too long to load the page up with all the images.
Seem to recall reading that Google was looking to enhance their software with similar photos of city blocks.
