I got a great package today--two treasured baseball annuals finally arrived in the mail. With hockey canceled and the Blazers well out of NBA contention, Spring Training seems like only the right thing to concentrate on in this prematurely warm Northwest winter, and while I hate the Red Sox, there's a certain historical glamour to a preseason in which we can finally ask whether "reigning champion Boston has a chance to repeat."
It looks like Stefan Sharkansky got a package he could become excited about as well--King County answered his voluminous request for anything that might have brushed up against the November election. Labeled "Truth Held Hostage," (points for unintentional irony; Truth has indeed been kidnapped from SoundPolitics and they seem unwilling to ransom) Sharkansky's latest rage event sputters off the page over the slothlike response of King County.
From February 22 until yesterday Sharkansky waited. Finally the reply had arrived, with it some of the requested documents. How disappointing to have been fulfilled, in a way reminiscient of the radical Left's supposed depression over spreading democracy in the Middle East. How do you get miles out of "Truth Held Hostage," when the Hostage gets delivered to you first class? (Maybe it was book rate; I don't want to pry.)
But Sharkansky can't be held down for long. Soon he had seized on his mantra of the central crime currently committed by King--stonewalling. Given the highly detailed manner in which he laid out what he wanted, obviously much that was requested was not delivered--especially the magic precinct files being "concealed" in the binder. When did King plan on getting around to providing the rest of the information? No later than March 31st.
March 31st. Maaarch....31st. When have I heard that date recently?
I remember now! That's the date that Assistant Secretary of State Excell gave, as the expected date for all the counties to turn in precinct abstracts that they'd been preparing. As I reported then, even that didn't seem like a firm date for Excell; he was apparently willing to be generous under the circumstances.
So King has a big binder full of precinct forms and notes. The SoS is asking for some kind of organized reference to that data collection, and they expect it March 31st. King tells Sharkansky that the information he seeks from the binder, will be organized and ready for the public to access on...March 31st.
Allow me to belabor the point: Sharkansky is furious with King for taking five months to produce information that the Secretary of State was expecting within five months, because to him this represents stonewalling, evasion and disinformation. Whatever they're evading and disinforming him with, he can get it all for $0.15 a page.
In other WaGov news, King referred 99 felons to prosecutors for illegal voting, some of whom were on both the Seattle Times list and the WSRP list. So we know Rossi got at least some of them right.
And finally, from the comments in the above SP story, an eyewitness report from May Day for Marriage at the Capitol (no info on why they held it in March):
[W]hen my family walked back to our car to leave I noticed...none other than Chris Vance.
He was really glad to hear that we supported him in his efforts to get a new election, and he told me that he honestly believes that the election will be overturned no later than May/June, and he wholeheartedly expects to see a new election sometime this year, probably in November.
Maybe Vance should confab with Stefan on the trial schedule; if King doesn't get their evasive, stonewalling hind parts in gear they'll never make that.

TJ:
Very entertaining piece.
I saw the copy of the letter on SP that Egan had sent to Sharkansky. His post on it is laughable. He's irritated because he's getting exactly what he requested. And the numbers aren't playing out the way he thought they would.

I posted a little humorous spoof in the Comments section of Sound Politics (copy below), and it was deleted. I thought he could take a little funniing, but apparently it was too nasty for him. LOL!
